Toy storage solutions by Heather Ledeboer

Toybags Some people love to be organized, I am one of them.  With kids this can be a challenge, as you know.  Here is something that has worked well for organizing many of our kids little toys.

Hunterscloset When you buy new bedding the sheets and pillowcases often come in clear plastic zippered bags.  I save these and use them for our kid's toys.  They work well because they are sturdy and allow us to easily see what is inside.  Inside their closets, under their clothes, we have put together the metal storage squares that you can buy and assemble to the height/width that work for your space.  This makes an easy area to store these bags of toys.  We find that this method allows for quick cleaning as we can give each of our kids a bag and tell them "ok Hunter, you put all the plastic animals in here" and they have a focus and something easy to carry with them.

Snow and blueberry muffins by Heather Ledeboer

Snow Ok so it is snowing today, again.  The last 2 weeks have brought a series of snow storms and then "warmer" weather.  The good news in this is that the snow doesn't have time to accumulate as the warm weather melts it.  The bad news is that it makes spring feel oh so far away.  Alas, what is a girl to do on a snowy day but bake?  So the kids and I made blueberry muffins.  The recipe is pretty quick and easy and it is a favorite for weekend mornings.  Perhaps you will find yourself in the baking mood today too.  If so, here is our recipe:

1 egg
1/2 c milk
1/4 c veg oil or melted shortening (I use oil)
1 1/2 c flour
1/2 c sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 c blueberries (3/4 c if canned) - we use frozen blueberries from Costco

Blueberry_muffins_3 Mix together: egg, milk and oil.  Blend together dry ingredients and stir into liquid mixture just until flouris lumpy.  Do not over-mix.  Gently stir in blueberries.  Fill muffin cups 2/3 full.  Bake in 400 degree oven (or toaster oven as I do) for 20-25 min, until golden brown.  Makes 12 medium muffins (I often double the recipe and just make a few at a time in my toaster oven so we can make then fresh each morning for breakfast).  Enjoy!

As I said, we like these muffins.  The kids are in a pretty silly mood anyway today but below is a video of them when I told them the muffins were ready:).

Hair Clip Holder - Weekly Giveaway

Happy Friday and a big congratulations to Barb for winning our Slurp & Burp Nursing Cover and to Angela for winning the Polliwalks shoes.  Of course if you didn't win the Slurp & Burp Nursing Cover, head over to Mom 4 Life now to get yours at 10% off for one week only!

Clippie Holders by Ribbies (comes with 6 Ribbies Clippies)-This week we are giving away something both fun and functional (I love items like that).  If you have a little girl in the house (or know some one who does) this Hair Clip Holder (that comes with 6 adorable hair clips) is sure to be used for years.  Available in 5 different styles, you are sure to find one that fits your little girl's personality!  Retail value is $36.00.  Here are the two sisters that created this fun product:

To be entered to win: Simply click here to take this week's survey.  it is short and sweet and covers a new product option that I have looked at a few different times and thought, "hmmmm, could be useful, what would my customers think about it?"  So here is your chance to let me know!  Please finish the survey by Tuesday the 1st at 9:00 PM PST in order to be entered to win.

Recap from the website survey from last week Wednesday:  Overall, you guys really like the design and logo for our website (yeah:) and have had very little navigation problems.  Thankfully, most of the suggestions you provided for improvement are in the works for our next updated version of the site coming this spring (i.e. a better search box, see all option, not being directed away from the website when you add something to your cart with a not-so-easy return, the option of having a buy now button right next to the colors you want to order rather than in a long drop down box).  Overall, you found the categories clear but the "Holding" category did cause some of you some trouble (not knowing for sure what would be there).  A few of you suggested the name be changed to "Babywearing".  I liked that idea and have implemented it already so thank you!  I am hopeful that will be less confusing to those navigating around on the site.  Thank you so much, your opinions are so helpful!

Recap from last week Friday's survey:  Last week you gave your opinion on the Wupzey High Char Food Catcher.  Although you were almost all very encouraging to have this item added to Mom 4 Life (because you thought other moms might like it or need it), very few of you reported that you would buy it yourself.  You felt that you were likely going to have a mess from the food going over the top of the tray anyway so perhaps just investing in a food mat or eating over a wipe-able floor might be just effective in the long run as it likely wasn't going to catch all the food anyway.  I tended to agree with most of you.  I thought this was a unique concept and I like the creativity that this mom inventor showed but I guess I personally haven't had much trouble with food going down and out near my children's feet.  Food going on the floor over the edge of the tray has been a much bigger issue.  So I am going to pass on this one and thanks again for your valuable input!

Parking Pal Magnetic Hand Print for the Car-safety, parking lot, parking lot safety, the parking palUpdate on a recent item added to our site because of your feedback:  We just added the Parking Pal to Mom 4 Life (you voted on this product in a recent survey) and I have to say I think I might be adding one to our van!  Also, you might want to visit the first page or two of our "new items" link as my assistant Anica has been hard at work adding new products (there are over 20 new items listed just this week)!

Get fit with friends by Mel G.

Its hard to make time for yourself to work out so try to  incorporate into your daily activities. If you usually meet with a friend for coffee after carpool, make it a fitness outing. Go for a power walk and then get your drink of choice. Getting the beverage after the walk works as a reward and you will be more likely to walk faster if you are not sipping away. Also after working up a sweat, you might want a refreshing iced green tea or non fat latte instead of a Carmel Frappucino.

*Tip *If you you want to cut back calories start with your morning drinks. Creams and flavorings are very high in calories sugar and/or fat. Opt for coffee with the flavor already in the beans, its yummy but with out  the extra calories . Also earl grey tea with "latte' style" soy milk  is delicious.

Starting a fitness group will motivate and inspire your friends and people around you. Together you can support each other in your health and fitness goals. Feel free to email me and ask me where start. mel@tightbodwithapod.com
example: A walk to the park with friends  turns into an instant play date. Do some push ups and sit ups while your little ones play. Remember be active everyday!

It is not all about me by Heather Ledeboer

Don't you love maturity?  I know that as my kids get older it is wonderful to start seeing little glimpses of it.  In my opinion, a big sign of maturity is not only the ability, but the desire to put others first.  In all honestly, my desire in this area often at odds with my ability (hey if my husband is willing to change the next diaper, I am not likely to insist that he let me).  But really, what is more beautiful than a life reaching out to touch the needs of another with no other motivation other than the desire to help.

I got an email this last weekend from Hailey, a 12 year old girl whose brother died at 6 week of age.  She has started a blog to share her feelings and has decided to try to do what she can to help others, not only with her on-line diary as she tells about her emotional journey but also with any financial donations she may receive.  I invite you to visit Hailey's blog and would also love for you to post a comment below telling us of any other examples of young maturity you have been blessed to witness.

A Tip for Calming a Crying Baby by Kristina B.

Here's another one of those tips that I came across a few years ago (who knows where), and I hope you find it useful.

If you've ever had a baby or young child wail at you and refuse to be consoled, you know the frustration it causes and how much patience it takes to get through the next however long it will be before the child calms down.  You may try everything you can think of without success.  So I suggest you try this: talk to them.

Sounds simple, I know, but let me explain how this works.  When the child is crying, if you talk to them very quietly, they (supposedly) will stop because they can't hear you over their own wails.

I have to be honest and say this has been hit or miss for me in the past, but I thought it was worth passing along.  All babies are different, right?   In addition, today I found that with my baby (8 months old), it was not enough to speak in a quiet voice, but had to bring my voice down to a whisper to get this to work.  It seemed to pacify him as long as I kept talking.

Next time your little one is practicing for the opera, try this tip.  I hope it works for you.

Food Dye: Sure It makes Food Look Good, But Are They Safe?

Food_dye Earlier this week, Heather informed me that there had been a request for a blog addressing a topic on food dyes so I was up for the challenge. :) We always here stories about food dyes causing cancer and other medical problems. Is it true and if so, how bad are they for us?

Humans have been using food dyes longer than you might think. Archaeologists have found ancient Egyptians writings that tell of drug colorings.  In fact, historians say food colorings have been around since 1500 B.C.

The reason why food coloring was used originally was to hide poor quality food products or spoiled food products.  In the 1800's toxic chemicals, arsenic and metal compounds were used to make the color dyes that was used in hard candies and pickles.  Because of numerous deaths and illnesses that were linked to the dyes, congress created the Pure Food and Drug ACT which gave birth to the FDA- Food and Drug Administration.  Today, we find food coloring in quite a few products as you may know, some examples are jellies, candies, mustard, ketchup, cakes and many others.  In fact the FDA has only approved 7 dyes- yellows #5 and #6, reds #3 and #40, blues #1 and #2, and green #3.

So to answer the question if food dyes are safe, well the FDA seems to say certain kinds are but I have to admit that since certain dyes are causing problems whose to say that others won't follow.  I think next time my kids want red frosting on their cake or eat those cool blue cookies, I think I'll leave it just as nature intended food to come out as, in their own natural color.

Challenge:  I challenge you to find 3 items in your cupboards in less than 20 seconds that don't have artificial colors and. or flavors. Good luck!  If you do please let me know what they were...

Till next time...

Slurp & Burp Nursing Cover -- Weekly Giveaway

Happy Friday!  To start out with, don't miss out on the fun Polliwalk shoes giveaway we are doing here on our blog.

For our giveaway last week we gave away a custom bath towel by Yikes Twins.  Our winner is Stephanie Joy, congratulations!  For the next week (until next week Thursday) you can get your own Yikes Twins towel at 10% off!

The survey last week was for the Parking Pal.  200 of you chimed in with your feedback on this item.  90% of you felt this would be a good fit for Mom 4 Life and 10% said no.  Here were some specific comments you left regarding adding to to Mom 4 Life:

"Your products are really cool. I scour the Internet all the time for clever mom stuff, but your site has stuff I've never seen before."

"Your products are smart and efficient, this one just isn't."

"Absolutely! This is an awesome safety product and I am always telling my kids to stand right there. a magnet they could touch would be great."

"I like it because it is different then anything I have seen and think that is exactly what Mom 4 Life is (different, must have, and unique)"

"It's a good idea in theory but the child would still have to obey the parent and stand there. We all know how that goes. LOL"

"I think the more things you have available the better."

Here was some specific feedback you gave in favor of the Parking Pal:
"This is neat! I like this idea a lot. I think I might try to purchase one."

"Great idea"

"My baby is too young but I can see this as a useful and un way to keep her safe"

"A cute idea."

and against it:
"I can use any magnet that I already have on my car for this. Why pay? Great idea though."

"I think this is ridiculous. My kids would never hold still simply because of a magnet. But the idea is a good one."

"I don't like putting stickers/magnets on my car."

One of you mentioned "Cute idea, but shipping is high" I just want to remind you that Mom 4 Life doesn't charge shipping so this product will be a better overall value on Mom 4 Life:)!

So with all that said you can look for the Parking Pal on Mom 4 Life in the near future as we just placed our first order this week!  I will let you know on the blog when it is added.  Thanks so much for your wonderful feedback.

Hands, I mean feet down, these are cute! Win a pair of Polliwalks for yourself!

Duck_fushia_top You know, for a girl, I don't have a big obsession with shoes.  But I do like crocs!  I have 3 pair myself and love them.  My son Hunter has a pair as well (they are bright green and match one of my pair:).  So when I found out about Polliwalks shoes I thought they were pretty darn cute.  Ashlyn doesn't have any crocs so I decided to get them for her.  There are several fun styles to choose from including gators, ladybugs, and frogs but, I choose the fuchsia duck style.  When they arrived today, my husband and I thought they were so cute.  I then showed Hunter and he loved them (and wanted to know if he could have a pair of his own--I told him he had to wait until he outgrew his crocs).  Ahslyn loves them and they fit her great.  They are soooo cute and although the tops of the shoes are what you see the most, they are equally cute on the bottom.  The soles on the shoes have animal tracks-so fun!

Want a pair?  Polliwalks has been kind enough to offer one of our readers a free pair, isn't that cool?

To be entered to win, please fill out this short 6 question survey that will help us learn more about the layout of our website so we can make improvements.  You have until next week Wednesday to enter (the 26th at noon PST).  We will choose one random winner and that person will get their choice of size and style--good luck!

Feedback on the Wet Bag

I got an email from our 4 Free Friday winner for the Wet Happened?  Custom Zippered Wet Bag and wanted to share her feedback with you:

Wet Happened? Custom Zippered Wet Bags by MiniMe BabyGear-"Heather!  What an amazing, wonderful product! I was on the other side of town buying one item this evening when my little one woke up. So, I paid for my purchase and went to the car to nurse. Lo and behold she had gone to the restroom and made a mess (number 2)!! So with the little above light on, I changed her in the passenger seat but didn't worry about how to contain the mess because I had the Wet Bag! I just popped everything in, including the diaper, as it came off. No mess, no hassle!  Thank you for the giveaway and the help that was much appreciated!  Elena"

Are Easter Eggs Good For You? by Jenny Lee

Egg In honor of Easter and all the beautiful painted eggs that will take place in the coming week, I thought it to be appropriate to learn a little more about our friend the egg.  As we all know eggs are very high in cholesterol, 250 mg per yolk- our total daily allowance, which is why a lot of adults stay away from them.  However, eggs have been condemned.

Eggs offer great nutritional value too.  They are high in Lecithin and methionine which are essential part to our diet.  Lecithin helps liver function, prevents kidney and gallstones from forming and ironically enough it keeps arterial lining free from cholesterol.  Methionine, also found in eggs, is a powerful antioxidant as well as it detoxifies heavy metal and excess histamine levels from the body.

But because of the high cholesterol levels should we eat eggs?  The irony in eggs that the media fails to tell us is that egg yolk supplies the cholesterol needed for mental development, essential for brain development.  Keep in mind that there are two types of cholesterol one bad and one good. Eggs are also rich in Vitamin A, B and D, essential amino acids, minerals, carbohydrates and protein that are also crucial for our body's health.

Research shows that humans do not increase blood cholesterol levels by eating cholesterol. Rather, we increase cholesterol by eating refined processed flour, sugars and fats. Based on these findings, we should eat eggs to help reduce cholesterol because of the lecithin content and avoid the processed and dead foods that are the real cause of cholesterol.  So to answer the question if eggs are good for  you...yes they are but like everything else in life the key is moderation.  Till next time!

Bath Towel by Yikes Twins -- Weekly Giveaway

Carrie is our winner for the Little Helper Signing Stickers from last week's giveaway!  For those of you who didn't win.  Head on over to Mom 4 Life and get yours for 10% off for one week only!  This week we are giving away a fun item (scroll down to the bottom of the post to see what it is).  We added a few new family videos on YouTube.  Click here if you wish to see them (the first three are the newest ones).

A recap of lasat week: over 120 of you chimed in on your thoughts about Milkscreen, a product that allows you to test for the presence of alcohol in your breast milk.  As expected, your feedback and opinions were varied but overall I was surprised at how many of you liked the idea of this product even if it was not something you personally would use or had a need for.  Below are 5 random comments (of 71 total comments provided) for and against this product and I honestly had to look hard to find 5 comments that were really against it:

In favor of it:

"Even conservative people may have a glass of wine now and then so just because this product screens alcohol does not mean anyone who uses it is being an irresponsible mother. It is a unique product that can help make a mother's life easier and provide peace of mind for those who need it."

"When I was nursing, I just decided not to drink because my milk was too important to "dump". However, I know many mom who did pump and dump and I think this product would be very useful for them."

"We are all human and sometimes want to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. The milkscreen product would allow a nursing mother to have a glass of wine or etc. with her husband. I think it is a neat product to offer. It would not be something I would purchase, because a drink is not that important to me. However I could see how some mothers would occasionally."

"Better safe than sorry. Babies are too innocent & precious to turn your back on a product with stigma attached- it's not like the product encourages nursing mothers to get wasted!"

"When I'm breastfeeding, I just don't drink alcohol. However, I know that some moms do. If this product made the difference between a mom guessing and being wrong vs. testing and being safe, I think it's a great idea. I hope that such moms will use this product."

And against it:

"I strongly believe that if you are nursing you don't need to be drinking alcohol. =)"

"I think that a lot of moms would be less likely to purchase from you in the future, as I think this might degrade your overall company image."

"Personally, I think if you are nursing or prego you should abstain from alcohol. The occasional glass of wine would be okay, but that is my opinion."

"I can see where some women need to feel "normal" or honestly just "need a drink" to unwind, but I feel that offering such a product, really the creation of such a product, will give women a sense of security that dismisses their responsibility to their child. If you want to drink, don't nurse."

"I guess I don't see the need for a product that would allow mothers to feel better about drinking. If there is any concern, why even do it!"

When asked if you felt like this item was a good fit for Mom 4 Life's selection of unique and useful products, 70% said yes, 25% said no and 5% gave no response. So there you have it!  It was pretty fun really to see how you all responded and I thank you for your honest feedback.

I have known about this product for about a year and had decided against caring when I first was presented with it simply because I figured it might be too controversial to be worth it and I didn't want to send the wrong message to my customers by offering it on my site.  I decided to revisit the idea and see what you guys thought about this product and found that you were much more open minded to it that I expected.

Want to know my personal opinion on milkscreen:)?  Ok here it goes:  To give you some background, on the survey when asked, "Have you ever been in a situation where you avoided an alcoholic drink because you were nursing and didn't want to pass it on to your child or have you ever "pumped and dumped" milk because you had a drink?"  28% said no and 66% said yes (the remainder of you provided an answer in the form of an "other comment".  I feel that a product like milkscreen is totally unnecessary for a mom that doesn't drink (obviously) but for the rest of the moms out there (which looks like about 66% of you), it provides an opportunity that if they choose to drink, they can do so with the knowlege/assurance that they are not passing on the alcohol to their child.  In almost every case I can think of, it seems like that knowledge would be a positive thing because what mom would willingly expose their child to alcohol if they have that awareness?  Not many.  Obviously moms can avoid the situation all together by not drinking at all.  However, this product is reaching out to the (aparent majority of) moms that might like that choice so it seems to be providing a service that, until now, was not available to those moms--peace of mind.  Breastfeeding is such a beautiful and positive thing.  I would love for moms to be able experience it as long as possible.  I nursed my daughter until she was almost two years old.  When I did wean her, it was because I had to take some antibiotics and I didn't want her to have it from my milk.  We were very close to being all the way weaned at that point and I knew that the antibiotics would be in my milk and passed on to her, so I ended up just opting to wean her at that time.  I know that I could have continued nursing her though it and she would have likely been just fine drinking my milk with the antibiotics, but it was just in the back of my mind and as moms we hate to willingly expose our children to things they don't need.  I could see a mom being in a similar situation as myself where she has been nursing for a long time and is thinking of weaning and would like to have an occasional glass of wine.  If a product like this could help her know when it was safe to nurse and therefore extend the length of time she nursed, that seems pretty great to me.  So there are my thoughts.  I welcome you to leave feedback below on any of the comments above or my opinion:).  Our product waiting list is currently quite long so I haven't fully decided on this product yet but it could very likely be something that you see on Mom 4 Life in the future.

Uno!: Using Games to Teach by Kristina B.

Owenuno If you show a child a picture of a rocket, most likely they can tell you that it's a rocket.  Show my almost-4-year-old the same picture, and he may tell you what type of rocket it is and name a few parts.  However, if you show him something purple, and ask what color it is, he probably won't be able to tell you.

I've learned, as many of you have no doubt noticed, that it is hard to teach young children something they just don't want to learn.  If this is your problem, don't despair, but make a game out of it instead.

My son wants to play Sesame Street Uno all the time.  Personally, I think that's a really great thing, as he is working on matching colors, numbers, counting, and learning the difference between the symbols 1 and 7.  He knows the difference between the numbers themselves, but if you look at a 1 and a 7, you can probably see the confusion since they both have a little tail at the top.

For other lessons, say, shapes, I use flash cards, but I don't just hold them up and ask him to tell me what they are.  I used to, but it didn't work very well.  Instead, I spread them out and ask him to pick a particular one.  If he gets it right, he "wins" that card.  He loves it.

So if you are having trouble getting your little one to learn shapes, colors, numbers, letters, or whatever, try making a game or buying one and see if that doesn't work for you, too.

iknowamom.com--a website to visit

I recently was introduced to a website called www.iknowamom.com  The owner, Whitney Hill and I found that we have a simlar passion for supporting other moms in business.  I wanted to give her a chance to share her site with you, where is what she wrote:

iknowamom"Without even realizing it, consumers make several choices when they decide to purchase an item.  But consumers are becoming more aware of what their money is going toward and many are making choices to go local or to buy handmade, etc.  Everyday, there are moms taking risks by leaving their careers in the corporate world to stay at home and raise their children.  But, it’s not always easy.  Some are single moms, some find it hard to live as a one income family and some have a strong desire to do something outside of motherhood, but would like the flexibility of working from home.

At iknowamom.com, we provide a carefully selected collection of small businesses that share the common thread of motherhood so that you can easily make the decision to help support mom business owners.  It’s so much more fun than buying from the local mega-store!  You’ll find :: jewelry, paper, art + photography -- fashion, beauty + home decor --  opportunities for charity + giving, and of course, a wealth of fabulous finds for mom + baby.  Let's face it - there has never been a better time to have a bump or be a baby!"  -Whitney Hill

Moby Wrap Baby Carrier feedback

Melody, a Mom 4 Life, emailed me today and wanted to share her Moby Wrap story with us from her blog, thanks Melody!

Giveaway winner feedback on the Jamie Rae Hat

Rebecca, our winner from last week's giveaway for the Jamie Rae hat sent me the following email:

"Hi Heather,

I received the Jamie Rae hat and my order today. I love it! Our little girl is due in just 3 weeks so we will be saving the hat for next spring but I can't wait to see it on her. Call me mean but I tried to put it on my 21 month old son just to get an idea :) Apparently pink isn't his color because he threw it down and said "NO, no, no" complete with furrowed brow and mad eyes!

Also, I can't say enough about Moby Wraps. I absolutely love them! I already have a plain black one but when I found the ones with pretty silk panels on your site I had to indulge."   Thanks again,  Rebecca

Little Helpers Signing Stickers - Weekly Giveaway

Happy Friday!  So on my list of things to do this last week was to upload some of our family videos onto YouTube for our far away friends and family to see how our kids (and my belly) has grown.  I figured some of you might also enjoy taking a peek so I will offer the link here where you can visit our recently added videos and browse at your leisure:).  My favories are the one of Hunter, our 4 year old son showing off his muscles and the one of my 2 year old daughter Ashlyn, praying before dinner--enjoy!

Sun Hats by Jamie Rae-Our winner for the Jamie Rae Sun Hat is Rebecca E. from WA, congratulations!  She picked out the Pale Pink Sun Hat.  For the rest of you, enjoy our special one week offer on this product: Buy one and get the second hat at 20% off.  The 20% off will be refunded when we process your order if you enter "2nd hat 20% off special" in the notes section during checkout.  I am sorry it isn't automatic, our current website isn't fancy enough for a discount like that.  Give us time though and hopefully our next upgraded website will be:).

Little Helper Signing Stickers by Mocobabies-helpers signing cards language signThis week our giveaway item is a cute tin of Little Helper Signing Stickers (retail value: $28.99).  These stickers were developed to help make signing with baby as effortless and fun as possible. With the Around the House set of Little Helper stickers, signs are clearly explained through easy-to-understand illustrations and simple captions. By placing the stickers directly on items and in areas where we play, interact and engage, families create a subtle reminder to use hands as well as voice when communicating with baby.

  • The "Around the House" set contains 50 Little Helper repositionable stickers (I love that you can stick and re-stick them)!
  • 'Candy Cane' tin packaging is fun and makes a cute nursery decorative addition
  • Each set includes a tester sticker so you can test the sticker out for yourself around the house
  • Stickers are 2.5" wide and 2.5" high

To be entered to win, please click here and fill out this week's survey.  I am really excited to see what you think of this new survey format.  It is different from the last few weeks and although it isn't free for me (bummer), it is much easier overall I think to work with.  Alas, the one thing I will say upfront is that you still don't have clickable links, it seems that this is just not an easy feature to come by in survey platforms so I appoligize in advance for that but I do encourage you to let me know what you think of this new survey system.  Have fun and good luck!  You must fill out the survey by Tuesday March 11 at 9:00PM PST (take note as in the past it as been midnight).

Fun feedback on the Sara bra and panties

I wanted to share with you the feedback I got via email from Stephanie, our winner from the Sarah Nummies bra and panties giveaway a few weeks ago after she got her package in the mail.   Please note that the photo below was not sent to us by Stephanie, this is the photo provided by Nummies:).

Sara Nursing Bra with Red Lace by Nummies-I received my bra and panty two days ago and wore them all day yesterday.  This is probably more info than you need, but my mom says I have a bra and panty fetish.:)  (Heather, this is why I was soooooo excited when I won this prize!)  I love pretty bras and panties.   At one point during my college years I had almost 50 bras and even more panties.  My bras have not been too pretty since I’ve had my kids.  I’ve been either breast feeding or pregnant for the last 3.5 years.  I really like the set, and I wish I knew about Nummies with my first child!  Some people might have the opinion that $50 is pricey for a bra, but I spent more on each of the ones I’m currently using and they are DEFINITELY not as pretty as the Sara Nummies.  I forgot to mention one of the best things I like about this bra.  I hope I can describe it accurately, but I like that the part connecting the cups in the front is small.  You can wear a lower cut blouse or vneck and the bra won’t show.  Thank you for a beautiful product!"  Stephanie T.

Cornstarch for Easy Diaper Duty by Kristina B.

bumGenius 2.0 One Size Cloth Diapers-cloth diapers, re-useable diapers, disposable diaper alternativeWe cloth diaper at my house.  If you've looked at cloth diapers lately, you've noticed there is an amazing array of choices.  One-size diapers, cloth diapers with flushable inserts (brand name gDiapers), and all-in-ones are just a few choices.

If you use cloth diapers, you have to deal with poo in some way.  If you've got gDiapers or diaper liners, you can simply flush away the yucky.  Of course, since there are so many kinds of cloth diapers out there, you may have a completely different system that is neither gDiapers nor has anything to do with liners.  If that's the case, this tip is for you.

gDiapers-Eco Friendly Flushable Diapers Starter Kit-Like I said, you have to deal with poo, and while dealing with said yuckiness, I noticed something really interesting.  You see, I use ordinary kitchen cornstarch as baby powder.  I just dump some onto my hand, and then wipe it onto my little one.  Usually, I take more than I need, and often just smear the rest across the diaper.  While cleaning the poo out of one of these diapers, I realized the extra cornstarch did not allow the poo to stick to the diaper, which made clean up so much easier!

So try this: wipe some cornstarch onto the bottom of your little one's diaper, and see if that doesn't make cloth diapering just a little less messy.  (Incidentally, I use prefolds and covers, but I see no reason why this wouldn't work with any other diaper.)

Feedback on the Zaky

I got a fun email this week I wanted to share with you since we recently featured the Zaky for a giveaway 2 weeks ago.

Zaky_post "Heather, I just wanted to share my experience after purchasing  the Zaky by Zakeez pillows.  I am a working mother and was dreading the moment that I had to put my 4 month old daughter, Kenadie, in daycare.  I was shopping your site and saw the Zaky.  I thought if I can't be with her than this might be the next best thing.  I slept with it for two nights so as to get my scent on the pillows and sent one off with her on her first day of daycare.  She loved it!  She still does!  She has almost completed her first month of daycare and the cutest thing is all the other kids know that it is Kenadie's pillow.  So they know to get it to her when she gets fussy.  So thank you for this great product that allows me to be with my daughter when I physically cannot."  Sincerely, Diane D

P.S. Wish I had a picture of Kenadie with her Zaky as she sleeps with them at night too.  Here is a picture of her anyways.  Thought you might want who we are talking about.

Feedback on the WubbaNub Plush Toy Pacifier

WubbaNub Plush Toy Pacifier-wabbanub, pacifier, plush toy, sootherA few of you mentioned in a recent surevey that you were concerned that the WubbaNub might be too heavy and the weight might make the pacifier fall out of the babies mouth, thus defeating the purpose of helping the pacifier stay in their mouth.

Carrie D. emailed me this today regarding this topic and I thought I would share it with you:

"I was reading the blog about the Wubbanubs.  My girlfriend who had twins used them right when they came home from hospital. . . So def not too heavy and they loved them!  So even for little twins, they were a hit. . .  Just since people were concerned over weight. . ."
